St Mary’s welcomes children into the life of the church. There are opportunities for children to meet at Sunday School as well as during the week – see below for details.

Sunday School

On Sunday morning, at 10.30am while the church service is taking place, we provide an exciting and varied programme of activities and learning about the bible, suitable for children aged 0-18 of all abilities and personalities.

  • Crèche is available up to age 3
  • Scramblers is our group for children aged 3-7
  • Bravers is our group for children aged 8-12
  • Pathfinders is our group for older children aged 13-18

Sessions include games, prayers, songs and music, bible stories, quizzes and craft activities, usually with something to take home that day.

Where:  We meet in both the tiled area and upstairs rooms of the Church Centre. Please ask one of the stewards if you are unsure of where we are. On your first visit, parents/carers are asked to register their children with the team leader.

When:  We meet at 10.30am every Sunday morning in term time, except on the third Sunday of each month when children and adults are together in the church for our Worship-For-All service. On the first Sunday of the month, children re-join the adults in the church prior to Communion. If in doubt, please ask a steward.

In preparation for major festivals, such as Christmas, all the children across the whole age range may spend some time together for singing practice and will usually participate in some way in festival services.

On a practical note:  Please ensure your child visits the toilet before they come into the group, and please let any member of our team know, in confidence, of any issues which may affect your child’s enjoyment of the group. You are welcome to remain with your child if they need you, but we would always encourage you to go into the church service while we care for your young one.

When the children start in their group, please drop your child off no more than ten minutes before the session starts. Scramblers  must be collected by their parent/carer at the end of the session, and we ask that you come promptly at the end of the church service.

Our team:  We love the Lord and can testify to his grace to us through Jesus Christ. All leaders and helpers are subject to CRB clearance. We meet regularly as a team to pray and plan together.

Midweek Activities (term time only)

Every Monday: 3.45 to 5pm: Kids Connect – Children & Parents Craft Club  (Contact Cath da Costa for more details: 07961 564385)

Every Tuesday : 9.30 to 11.30am: Centre Club – The St Mary’s Toddler Group

Run by volunteers from St Mary’s church, for parents or carers of pre-school children. We aim to provide a fun, safe environment for children to play in, while carers chat over a cup of coffee. Members are asked to contribute £1 per week to cover the cost of refreshments and materials used. Activities provided for the children include playdough, painting, sand and craft, as well as numerous toys to play with. We end each morning with a time of singing. We also have seasonal activities, such as a Nativity play and Easter egg hunt. We usually end each term with a shared meal, and sometimes in the summer have a trip out to a place of interest to young children, e.g. a junior farm.
